Ansu Fati could join Ousmane Dembele at Paris Saint-Germain by leaving FC Barcelona this summer.
Paris Saint-Germain are preparing an offer for FC Barcelona star Ansu Fati to join Ousmane Dembele in the French capital on the orders of their head coach Luis Enrique according to AS.
Considering their economic woes which have them struggling to buy and register new players while successfully navigating Financial Fair Play Limits, the Catalans might be tempted to accept a reasonable offer for the La Masia pearl after putting him on the market at the end of last season.
This development would have seemed unthinkable at the turn of the decade when Fati broke through to the first team as a 16-year-old and smashed a number of youngest goalscorer and appearance maker records both for the club and in elite competitions such as the Champions League.
In 2021, Fati signed a contract extension until 2027 that came with a €1 billion ($1.1 billion) release clause and inherited Lionel Messi's iconic number 10 shirt following the Argentine's departure to PSG.
Yet two years on, the Guinea-born sensation once thought of as the future of the club could follow the the seven-time's Ballon d'Or winner's trajectory.
Things weren't meant to pan out like this, but Fati's progress had cruelly been held back by harsh injuries that have often had him spend more time on the operating table or resting up than on the pitch.
While 2022/2023 remained relatively knock free for Fati, Xavi Hernandez seldom used him in favor of a four-man midfield system that placed Gavi as a false left winger in his preferred area of the pitch.
As a La Liga-winning campaign came to a close, it was widely reported by outlets including SPORT that Fati had been put up for sale with fellow underperforming Spain international Ferran Torres.
Until now, however, there have been no incoming bids worthwhile for the now 20-year-old, whose sale would represent much welcomed pure profit for the Blaugrana.
Fati is reportedly a request from his ex-La Roja manager Luis Enrique, who took the youngster to his first World Cup in Qatar.
With PSG's owners hailing from the same Middle Eastern state, putting up the money for Fati that would tempt Barca into making a sale should be pretty much straightforward.
And if a deal were to be completed, he would follow Ousmane Dembele out of the exit door to the French capital as a €50 million ($55 million) switch is waiting to be finalized.
Selling Dembele and Fati now, plus Franck Kessie, will give Barca more financial breathing space.
It could also mean that in addition to registering new signings such as Ilkay Gundogan, an operation to land his former Manchester City teammate Bernardo Silva could also be launched as Vitor Roque arrives from Atletico Parananese in the now as opposed to January 2024.
As also previously reported by AS, however, it is thought that the Brazilians will only be willing to entertain Vitor Roque leaving them before the end of the South American season if they are eliminated from the Copa Libertadores.
On Tuesday evening, Athletico-PR will attempt to overturn a 3-1 deficit against Bolivar in their last 16 clash.
