Prince William attended an event Tuesday marking his first public event since a video released by tabloid outlets TMZ and The Sun appeared to show him and his wife Kate Middleton shopping over the weekend, as the world continues to speculate about her public disappearance following a reported surgery.

The world has been buzzing in recent weeks about Kate’s whereabouts after a series of events that included the cancellation of what was supposed to be her first public appearance. In January, Kensington Palace announced Kate was having an abdominal surgery and said “based on the current medical advice,” it was “unlikely [she would] return to public duties until after Easter. Speculation about Kate and her health grew after Kensington Palace shared a photo of Kate and her three children for Mother’s Day that later was revealed to be digitally altered. A day later, Kensington Palace released a statement signed by Kate that included an apology and a claim that she was an “amateour photographer” who “[experiments] with editing.” Rumors and conspiracy theories have spread on the internet since then. Over the weekend, unconfirmed claims about the BBC being told to be on alert from the Royal Family also spread online.
