


Police are investigating an explosion in downtown Fort Worth, Texas, stemming from a gas leak that occurred Monday afternoon, reports say.
In a post on X, the Fort Worth police said they are “working a Major Incident” and asked people to avoid the downtown area, and a post from Tarrant County, Texas, on X clarified it was a “building explosion.”
Fort Worth City Council member Carlos Flores posted on his Facebook page saying “there was a gas leak and explosion in Downtown.”
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives told the local NBC station the explosion was caused by “natural gas.”
The explosion was reported around 3:45 p.m. Central Time in downtown Fort Worth at the Sandman Signature Fort Worth Hotel, NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth reported, which opened at the historic, 20-floor W.T. Waggoner Building last March.
A family reunification area has been set up for those involved in the incident at Sundance Square, according to the Fort Worth Fire Department.
How many people, if any, were injured in the explosion. Fort Worth police have said they will give updated information as it’s available and asked people to follow the hashtag “ #FWDowntownAlert.”
