


Massive waves are striking the California coastline this week because of storms in the Pacific Ocean, leaving the National Weather Service warning residents of potential flooding, rip currents, dangerous water conditions and beach erosion.

Waves reached 28 to 33 feet on Thursday in Santa Cruz, the National Weather service said Thursday, as intense waves are expected to continue into the evening and through Friday.
The National Weather Service for the Bay Area warned residents in the area to stay “out and well away from the water,” saying the waves are bringing “deadly conditions that can easily overpower the strongest swimmers.”
Waves could possibly reach 40 feet in some locations along the Northern California Coast, the National Weather Service warned Thursday, issuing a high surf warning until 3 a.m. local time Friday.
Residents were temporarily ordered to evacuate in certain areas of Marin County, north of San Francisco, and tidal waves caused flooding and led Santa Cruz County to also issue an evacuation warning Thursday.
Further south, the height of the waves is reduced, the National Weather Services said, warning that the Los Angeles and Santa Barbara areas could see waves that reach up to 20 feet.
Waves could possibly reach 40 feet in some locations.
