David DePape, who is serving a 30-year sentence in federal prison for attacking the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being convicted on state charges, according to multiple reports.
A San Francisco jury convicted DePape on kidnapping and burglary charges earlier this year.
DePape, 44, was found guilty by a San Francisco jury earlier this year of five state charges, including aggravated kidnapping resulting in bodily harm or death, false imprisonment of an elder or dependent adult, threatening family of public officials, first-degree residential burglary and preventing or dissuading a witness by force or threat.
Adam Lipson—one of DePape’s attorneys—requested Judge Harry Dorfman consider DePape’s mental health before his sentencing, suggesting DePape was easily susceptible to online propaganda before attacking Paul Pelosi in October 2022, the Associated Press reported.
Paul Pelosi called for DePape to receive the maximum sentence, saying he has yet to experience a “peaceful sleep” since DePape “broke into my home.”
Dorfman rejected requests from DePape’s attorneys for a new trial.

DePape’s attorneys have reportedly said they will appeal the state charges while arguing his dual convictions amount to double jeopardy, a clause in the Fifth Amendment preventing a person from being prosecuted for the same crime twice.
