In a move that underscores Paramount Global's expansionary ambitions, the media and entertainment company announced it has elevated Darío Turovelzky from SVP to Executive Vice President, Broadcast & Studios, Latin America. This appointment is set to play a vital role in the growth of Paramount's international content offerings and strengthening its foothold in the Latin American market.
Turovelzky, who was tapped to lead Telefé and Chilevisión in 2021, following ViacomCBS International's acquisition of the channels from Argentina and Chile, will now also oversee Paramount's free-to-air broadcast networks business and operations in Latin America, as well as all Spanish and Portuguese language originals for Paramount's new international studio venture, Paramount Television International Studios (PTIS).
That studio venture is considered to be key in supporting the global growth and appeal of Paramount+, by producing premium scripted content that resonates with the diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences of international audiences, like the film Uno Para Morir, produced by PTIS in Mexico, which saw strong performance after its premiere in the US and internationally in May. Another highly touted production is the upcoming biopic series Anderson Spider Silva, based on the life of Brazilian MMA sensation Anderson "Spider" Silva.
In his new role, Turovelzky will report to Maria Kyriacou, President of Broadcast & Studios, International Markets.
“Darío is a hugely strategic leader, and his promotion is a recognition of the role he has played in driving the success of our free-to-air business in Latin America and now additionally his leadership of our international studio business in the region," states Kyriacou. "I’m delighted to be working with him in this expanded role as we continue to harness the power of our international content to grow our global scale as a business.”
According to the media company, Turovelzky, who will continue to be based in Buenos Aires, has overseen the ongoing success of Paramount’s free-to-air businesses in the region, with Telefe and Chilevisión strengthening their positions as the number one and number two networks in Argentina and Chile. His promotion is seen as an endorsement of his ability to solidify Paramount+ as a leading global media player.
