The award will make its debut at the 98th Academy Awards in 2026, when movies from 2025 will be eligible for the recognition, the Academy said in a statement to the Associated Press and other outlets.
The creation of the award is a win for the Academy Casting Directors branch, which was created in 2013 and currently has nearly 160 members, Deadline reported.
The Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film was the last award added to the awards show, debuting in 2001.
