A man wielding two knives was shot and killed in Milwaukee near the site of the Republican National Convention by police officers from Ohio who were in town to assist local law enforcement with security at the GOP event, in an incident that comes amid heightened security around political events following an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

The incident took place in a residential neighborhood around a mile away from the site of the GOP convention on Tuesday afternoon.
Five uniformed officers from the Columbus, Ohio, police department fired at the man who was armed with a knife in each hand and “engaged in an altercation with another unarmed individual,” Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman told reporters.
The five officers were part of a 13-member bicycle patrol unit they were discussing their daily assignment when the incident took place, Norman added.
The patrol unit is in Milwaukee along with a large contingent of thousands of out-of-state police officers to assist local authorities with security arrangements for the Republican National Convention.
Other local officials told the Associated Press that the incident doesn’t appear to have any link with security at the convention itself.
