It’s been more than two decades since NSYNC last appeared on the Hot 100, a fact that is sure to upset many millennials who grew up with the boy band. Now, the outfit is back with a new track that has immediately become a hit on the most competitive songs tally in the United States.
NSYNC’s new single "Better Place" debuts at No. 25 on this week’s Hot 100. The tune marks the second-loftiest new entry on the ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.S. It comes in behind only Jung Kook’s “3D” with Jack Harlow, which opens at No. 5.
According to Billboard, “Better Place” marks NSYNC’s lucky thirteenth song to make it to the Hot 100. The tune is also their first new win on the tally since 2002 when their final single, “Girlfriend,” appeared on the chart.
NSYNC’s latest single was an immediate success when it came to both sales and radio airplay adoption. The tune blasts in at No. 21 on the Radio Songs chart, earning one of the top starts on the list of the most successful cuts at radio in America. According to Billboard, the smash racked up 29 million radio airplay audience impressions across all stations.
“Better Place” also launches in second place on the Digital Song Sales chart, missing out on the top spot as Jung Kook’s “3D” with Jack Harlow opens at No. 1. NSYNC’s latest single starts in the runner-up rung thanks to 17,000 copies sold. If “Better Place” had been released one week prior, it would have started at No. 1, as last week’s ruler didn’t sell 10,000 copies.
“Better Place” was written and recorded for the upcoming animated film Trolls Band Together, which is slated to arrive in theaters on November 13. The title is the third in the series, which has seen NSYNC member Justin Timberlake lead the music. He has dropped at least one big single from each of the first two movies, and now he’s landed a third.
