Wayne LaPierre will resign as the chief executive of the National Rifle Association, the gun-rights group announced Friday, amid an ongoing legal dispute with New York Attorney General Letitia James, who has called for the organization to be dissolved over allegations of corruption.

LaPierre, 74, announced his resignation—effective Jan. 31—during a board meeting in Irving, Texas, on Friday and cited health reasons behind the decision, according to the Wall Street Journal.
