Normani announced Wednesday her long-awaited debut solo album, “Dopamine,” is on the way, ending years of anticipation from fans who expected an album from the singer after she and other members of platinum-selling girl group Fifth Harmony split in 2018.

Normani, who cleared her Instagram account Tuesday ahead of the announcement, announced “Dopamine” on her socials but didn’t provide a release date for the album.

The album announcement comes more than five years after Normani became a solo artist and signed to RCA, when fans expected a solo album would soon be released from the singer.

Instead of an album, Normani has released years of singles since starting her solo career, which featured artists like Cardi B, Sam Smith and Khalid.

Users on X, formerly known as Twitter, expressed excitement about the album announcement, playfully jabbing at the multi-year wait and Normani’s small discography.

11.8 million. That’s how many monthly listeners Normani has on Spotify.

Normani was a founding member of Fifth Harmony, a girl group formed in 2012 on The X Factor featuring Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui and Camila Cabello, who left the group in 2016. The group released their debut album in 2015 and secured a triple platinum certification in the U.S. for their single, “Worth It.” Fifth Harmony parted ways in 2018, resulting in Normani pursuing a solo career and a contract with RCA. Normani confirmed in 2022 a larger body of work would be coming soon after she signed a global publishing deal with Hipgnosis Songs Group, Variety reported.
