The Associated Press called the race for Haley at 8.36 p.m. ET, just an hour and a half after polls closed in D.C.
Haley won the race with 62.8% of the vote, with former President Donald Trump receiving around 33.3%.
With her first primary win, Haley secured all 19 delegates from the district, although she continues to trail a long distance behind the former president, who has secured 244 delegates.
The Trump campaign largely dismissed Haley’s win, saying she had been crowned “Queen of the Swamp by the lobbyists and DC insiders that want to protect the failed status quo.”
Commenting on her win, Haley wrote on X: “Republicans closest to Washington’s dysfunction know that Donald Trump has brought nothing but chaos and division for the past 8 years. It's time to start winning again and move our nation forward!”
Haley’s spokesperson Olivia Perez-Cubas pointed out that Haley’s Sunday win makes her the “first woman to win a Republican primary in U.S. history.”
