Packers Camp Football

Green Bay Packers' quarterback Jordan Love has been up and down this training camp.

Adam Schein hasn’t been to Green Bay this training camp.

In fact, no one in the NFL’s smallest city can ever remember seeing Schein at a game, practice or Packer-related event.

But Schein — who hosts a sports talk show on CBS Sports Network as well as SiriusXM — apparently has all the answers when it comes to Jordan Love, the Packers’ new starting quarterback.

During a video posted Friday night, Schein said, “Jordan Love can’t play football. Simple as that.”

While Love has been up and down in camp, remember that the Packers have yet to play a preseason game. Love is also just one piece in what could be the NFL’s youngest offense — certainly at the skill positions.

Not only is Love a first-time starter, Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs — a pair of second-year players — will be the top two wideouts. Second-year man Samori Toure and rookie Jayden Reed will likely round out the wide receiver group, while rookies Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft could be the top two tight ends.

With so much youth, the offense is having some expected growing pains against a veteran defense during the early days of camp. According to Schein, though, this all must be Love’s fault.

“Jordan Love can’t do a damn thing,” Schein bellowed. “This is going to be a predictable disaster with Jordan Love in Green Bay.”

Shortly after Schein’s rant, Green Bay linebacker De’Vondre Campbell came to Love’s defense tweeting at Schein:

“Ain’t no way you just got on here with that baggy ass Steve Harvey suit and them thick ass dollar tree glasses and disrespected my QB by saying he can’t play football,” Campbell tweeted. “He only has one career start let him play at least half a season before you open your big dumb ass mouth.”

The bottom line is that the verdict remains out on Love.

During his first three seasons in the league, Love played in 10 games and made one start while sitting behind Aaron Rodgers. Love completed 50 of his 83 passes for 606 yards with three touchdowns, three interceptions and a 79.7 passer rating.

Love was much improved last season when he played in four games and finished the year 14-of-21 for 195 yards with one TD, no interceptions and a quarterback rating of 112.2.

During a 40-33 loss at Philadelphia on Nov. 27, Rodgers left the game with a rib injury early in the fourth quarter. Love entered and went 6-of-9 for 113 yards, had a quarterback rating of 146.8 and led the Packers to 10 points on his two drives.

During Green Bay’s six practices this summer, Love has completed 50-of-94 passes (53.2%). Apparently, those numbers convinced Schein that Love “can’t play football” even though the host has never left the comfy confines of his studio.

Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst viewed things a bit differently.

“He’s done a really nice job,” Gutekunst said of Love. “The maturity he’s shown and grown with in our time has been impressive.”
