Outlets including NBC News, ABC News, The New York Times and the New Orleans Times-Picayune identified Jabbar as the attacker, citing law enforcement sources.
Police still have not publicly disclosed the suspect’s name.
CNN reported the suspect had an ISIS flag, citing unnamed police officials (CBS News reported earlier a black flag was seen attached to the back of the truck, and investigators were trying to determine if the flag was tied to ISIS or any other foreign terror group).
The suspect was a U.S. citizen, and the truck used in the attack was listed on the rental website Turo and not owned by the suspected attacker, CNN reported, citing two unnamed sources.
Officials are trying to learn more about Jabbar’s “background and potential travel history,” NBC News added.
The New Orleans Police Department said after the attacker’s vehicle came to a stop he “opened fire on responding officers, who returned fire,” which resulted in the suspect being killed.
This is a developing story.
