NBC finished the second quarter of 2023 as the top-ranked U.S. digital news organization, according to data compiled by Comscore Media Metrix. For the quarter, NBC’s digital brand—which includes NBC News, Today, MSNBC and CNBC—delivered a monthly average audience of 131 million unique visitors, putting it ahead of CNN, ABC News, CBS News, Fox News, The New York Times NYT and The Washington Post.

The quarterly results mean NBC has held on to the top digital ranking for 24 months, and extended its run as the leading digital news brand to 9 consecutive quarters. NBCNews.com delivered the largest single audience under the NBCU News Group’s digital umbrella, with an average of 79 million unique visitors in the second quarter.

In June, NBCNews.com delivered its largest monthly audience since January, with 86 million unique visitors. Fox News Digital—which trailed NBCU with 95 million unique visitors in the second quarter—also saw growth (up 19% year-over-year), while CNN.com slipped, down 2% with 120 million unique visitors. NYTimes.com—which had 78 million unique visitors in the second quarter—was down 14%.

Today Digital—the sprawling digital brand tied to NBC’s iconic morning show— averaged 47 million monthly unique visitors in Q2 2023, and ranked as the second largest individual publisher among leading lifestyle and entertainment brands. “Today has really been a pioneer in that space,” Libby Leist, executive vice president of Today & Lifestyle, told me in May. “We are steadfastly building this huge lifestyle juggernaut.”

NBC’s business brand, CNBC Digital, delivered 57 million unique visitors in the second quarter, making it the second largest business site online, ahead of WSJ.com, Reuters.com, FoxBusiness.com and Bloomberg.com.

MSNBC Digital saw double-digit year-over-year growth in the second quarter, with blogs tied to MSNBC’s The ReidOut and The Rachel Maddow Show driving pageviews up 40%.
