The Peregrine 1 mission launch was the debut of Vulcan, a brand-new rocket designed by the United Launch Alliance—a Boeing and Lockheed Martin joint venture—that will replace the older Altas V and Delta IV.
The lunar lander onboard the rocket has been designed by Pittsburgh-based private firm Astrobotic Technology.
This is the first American Lunar mission since the crewed Apollo-17 mission in 1972 and it comes ahead of a planned crewed moon mission, Artemis—scheduled to take place later this year.
This is a developing story.
