


Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., plans to announce Thursday he will not seek reelection next year, the Associated Press reported—putting an end to his decadeslong career during which he became the longest-serving Senate party leader in history, but broke with his party over President Donald Trump.

McConnell is expected to announce the decision in an address on the Senate floor, according to the AP, which said McConnell informed it of his plans.
McConnell announced last February he would finish his term and step down as the GOP Senate leader after 17 years amid concerns about his health and age, but he did not say at the time whether he would run for reelection.
