Today, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Donald Trump’s nominee to be Secretary of Health and Human Services, will testify at his confirmation hearing in front of the Senate Finance Committee. The hearing today will likely focus on the role’s responsibilities in overseeing Medicare and Medicaid, one of the biggest parts of the federal budget. Tomorrow, he’ll speak before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committee, facing questions regarding management of HHS’s oversight of the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and the National Institutes For Health.

Kennedy, a former Congressperson and son of the assassinated Senator, faces widespread opposition.. Last month, a group of over 75 Nobel Laureates signed a letter opposing Kennedy’s nomination, citing his “lack of credentials or relevant experience” and his activism against vaccines, concluding that confirming him to the role would “put the public’s health in jeopardy.” Former Vice President Mike Pence’s political group Advancing American Freedom is also urging Republicans not to support Mr. Kennedy’s nomination, citing his past support for abortion rights. On Tuesday, former ambassador Caroline Kennedy, Mr. Kennedy’s cousin, urged senators not to confirm him, calling him a “predator” who preyed on the parents of sick children.

Kennedy’s confirmation hearing begins at 10:00am ET. We’ll have live updates here.
