Kylian Mbappe has refused Al-Hilal's mega offer according to L'Equipe.
Kylian Mbappe has turned down Al-Hilal's monstrous contract offer through the player and his camp refusing to meet a delegation representing the Saudi club which hoped to negotiate a world record transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, according to L'Equipe.
A Saudi delegation is in Paris on Wednesday to sign FC Zenit winger Malcom. It hoped to take advantage of the trip to present their project to Mbappe and his camp, which is led by the Frenchman's mother Fayza Lamari.
As reported by L'Equipe this evening, however, the 24-year-old's entourage has refused to hold any type of discussion with Al-Hilal's traveling band after PSG put Mbappe up for sale for not renewing his current contract beyond June 30,2024.
The French magazine adds that Mbappe has "never considered this option" of moving to the Middle East, which points to him holding out until his PSG deal expires in order to join Real Madrid on a free transfer next year.
L'Equipe's news comes after AS reported Mbappe's camp had started negotiating a summer switch with Al-Hilal on Tuesday evening.
According to the AFP, Al-Hilal were given permission to talk to Mbappe after launching a €300 million ($331 million) formal bid for the World Cup winner which would easily smash the €222 million ($245 million) world transfer record the Qatari-owned club set in 2017 upon triggering Neymar's release clause at FC Barcelona.
As Mbappe was reportedly being offered €200 million ($221 million) a year on a two-season deal, this brought the total package to a monstrous €700 million ($773 million).
On that sort of money, Mbappe would be well-positioned to top the next two editions of Forbes' list of The World's Highest-Paid Athletes at least.
Yet AS explained that his camp and Al-Hilal weren't seeing eye-to-eye, because the Saudis wanted him to commit to two terms while Mbappe wished to play just one in the Saui Pro League.
Mbappe reportedly sought an even bigger piece of the €700 million pie too. Instead of a €400 million-€300 million split ($443 million-$331 million) in the player's favour, the Mbappe camp attempted to push his earnings nearer €500 million ($552 million) with PSG set to receive a smaller €200 million ($221 million) sum.
L'Equipe reports that Mbappe's team and his potential new employers haven't even got to the negotiating table together, though.
If true, this amplifies the possibility of Mbappe being frozen out at PSG this season and watching the action from the stands.
That's providing Real Madrid don't come in for him before the close of the transfer window, however, to launch a minimum €150 million ($166 million) bid which will pique PSG's interest according to Sky Sports.
By reportedly rejecting Al-Hilal, as did former PSG teammate Lionel Messi when opting to join Inter Miami last month, Mbappe will prove that he is not entirely motivated by money and would instead prefer to challenge himself at an elite club such as the 14-time Champions League-winning Los Blancos.
