Jung Kook (Big Hit Music)

Big Hit Music

On Friday, September 29, Jung Kook unveiled his latest single, "3D," following in the footsteps of his incredibly successful smash hit, "Seven." While "Seven" solidified his prowess as a soloist alongside his accomplishments as a member of BTS, the South Korean superstar is now opening up about his more mature solo work and the kind of reaction he hopes it will evoke from fans.

In a candid interview with Consequence of Sound, Jung Kook didn't shy away from admitting that his new work is more adult-oriented than his previous releases. Rather than causing scandal, he welcomed the surprise that some listeners might experience.

During the chat, Jung Kook said he hopes his new single, "3D," gives fans a "fun, playful, light shock." This is precisely the reaction he anticipates when fans hear the just-released track, which features lyrics like "I can't touch you through the phone / Or kiss you through the universe" and "Body to body to body to body to body."

After gaining fame as a member of the most prominent K-pop group in history, Jung Kook embarked on his solo journey in 2020. He achieved his first chart victories in America in 2022, with his solo track "Dreamers" and his collaboration with Charlie Puth, "Left and Right," both reaching the Hot 100.

Just a few months ago, Jung Kook officially marked his solo career with what's considered his debut release, "Seven." The song took a decidedly more mature direction than anything BTS had previously shared, with explicit lyrics catching some long-time fans off guard. Nevertheless, the adult nature of "Seven" didn't hinder its global success, as it debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100. This achievement made Jung Kook only the second K-pop soloist to reach the top spot on the prestigious chart, following in the footsteps of his BTS bandmate Jimin.

Now, as he releases "3D," Jung Kook is aiming to replicate his previous triumph, and it appears that another mature song may be just what he needs to continue his solo journey on a high note.
