Jung Kook (Big Hit Music)

Big Hit Music

BTS sensation Jung Kook is having a fantastic week on the Billboard charts as his latest single "Seven" storms onto the prestigious Hot 100 at No. 1. This achievement not only marks Jung Kook's first chart-topper as a solo artist but also grants him his first-ever top 10 hit on the ranking. By breaking into the top 10, Jung Kook joins an exclusive club of some South Korean superstars who have reached similar heights on the list.

Jung Kook now stands as just the fourth South Korean artist to chart a top 10 hit on the Hot 100, putting him in the esteemed company of some familiar names.

Trailblazing K-pop star Psy was the first South Korean artist to experience the triumph of reaching the highest tier on the Hot 100 chart. In 2012, his global hit "Gangnam Style" became a viral sensation, coming tantalizingly close to securing the top spot but settling for a No. 2 peak. He followed up his success with "Gentleman" a year later, which reached No. 5 on the chart.

BTS soon joined Psy in achieving top 10 glory on the Hot 100. Over the years, BTS has consistently shattered records and defied expectations, amassing an impressive ten top 10 hits on the chart, including six chart-toppers.

Now, in 2023, the number of South Korean acts with Hot 100 top 10 hits has doubled, thanks to the exceptional achievements of two BTS members. Earlier this year, Jung Kook's bandmate Jimin made history when his debut solo single "Like Crazy" soared to the No. 1 spot on the ranking. Jimin's feat not only made him the first South Korean soloist to claim the pinnacle of the chart but also marked only the second time a South Korean soloist had even entered the top 10.

Following in Jimin's groundbreaking footsteps, Jung Kook has now matched his bandmate's achievement, propelling his single "Seven" to the top of the Hot 100 on its very first attempt.
