New signing Joao Felix has given his first interview as an FC Barcelona player, praising the club's fans to SPORT and telling the newspaper that winning the Champions League is the 'real goal' for Xavi's men.

Felix joined the Catalans on loan as the summer transfer window's deadline day drew to a close.

He made his debut through a short cameo at the end of a gritty 2-1 win to Osasuna shortly after and was then whisked away on international duty with Portugual.

Following his country's 9-0 demolition where he scored the ninth and final goal, Felix conceded a short interview to SPORT where he started by saying he felt "good" and "confident".

"Physically, too, despite not having had many minutes lately. I'm ready to arrive in Barcelona and start strong. I want to work to help the team," the 23-year-old added.

With Ez Abde and Ansu Fati both leaving the club this summer, there is a vacant berth down the left channel if Xavi opts for a 4-3-3 with two wideman.

Regarding the position where he thinks he can offer his best football, Felix said: "I see myself comfortable starting from the left wing. I've been playing there for some time now and I think that's where Xavi likes to put me the most."

"The group has welcomed me very well," Felix revealed. "The team is young, so I'm very comfortable. There is a very good group that wants to win."

With a home fixture against Real Betis scheduled for Saturday, followed by a hosting of Royal Antwerp in the Champions League the following Tuesday, Felix said he is "really looking forward to playing on Montjuic [Mountain] in front of our fans."

"It's a shame it's not at the Camp Nou. We hope to have a good game and take the three points," he said, regarding Betis.

Though he has only been at the club a short time, Felix said he has been "surprised" by the affection already shown to him by Culers.

"I've always said I wanted to play there and maybe that's why they love me so much," he offered on this.

As for he and his new team's ambitions in 2023/2024, Felix stated that: "Of course the Champions League is a real goal".

"All the titles we will dispute are an objective, but we are going step by step and calmly," Felix concluded.

Though Barca are not expected to win the Champions League outright, successfully qualifying out of the group following back-to-back failures to do so in the past couple of seasons is seen as the bare minimum achievement to be delivered by president Joan Laporta.
