The home from which John F. Kennedy and his family ran his 1960 presidential campaign in Washington D.C. has been listed for sale at $7.5 million, more than twice what it last sold for in 2004.

The 5,215-square-foot single-family townhouse in Georgetown was home to the Kennedys from 1957 through JFK's inauguration, and he went to his swearing in as president from the N Street residence in January of 1961.

Two of John and Jacqueline Kennedy’s children, Caroline and John Jr., were born while the Kennedys called the house home.

Jackie, known for her discerning taste, redecorated the residence several times while hosting “political teas” and other gatherings to advance her husband’s career, according to Sotheby’s International Realty.

The townhouse, listed by Michael Rankin of TTR Sotheby’s, served as an informal campaign office in the lead up to the 1960 election and JFK hosted several press conferences on the front steps.

After the Kennedy family moved into the White House, the townhouse was sold and has changed hands several times since.

The five bedroom, six bath townhouse has a library, walk-up attic, private staff entrance, double parlor for entertaining and spacious garden.

The house at 3307 N Street NW in Washington D.C. was built in 1811 for William Marbury, a staunch federalist and one of the "Midnight Judges" appointed by President John Adams as he left office. Marbury is the namesake of the landmark Supreme Court case Marbury v. Madison, the case that established the principle of judicial review and allows courts to strike down laws that violate the U.S. Constitution.

The Kennedy house is just the latest former presidential residence to hit the market. The childhood home of President Grover Cleveland, located in Fayetteville, New York, was listed for sale for $1.5 million in January. The current owners reportedly said they were hoping the property would be converted into a museum or a nonprofit before the listing was removed months later. The English home President Herbert Hoover lived in years before he was elected to lead the United States was listed for sale in Surrey for for $2.6 million (£1,995,000) in January. A 12-acre property that was once a hunting retreat favored by President Franklin D. Roosevelt was listed for $1.5 million in Hudson Valley, New York last month.
