Qatar announced Tuesday it mediated a deal between Israel and Gaza-based militant group Hamas to allow Israeli hostages to get medicine in exchange for more humanitarian aid being allowed into Gaza—marking the first successful negotiations around hostages in months.
In a statement posted to X, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Qatar said “medicine along with other humanitarian aid is to be delivered” to civilians in the “most affected and vulnerable areas” of the Gaza Strip in exchange for medication being delivered to Israeli hostages being held in Gaza.
The medication will leave Doha, Qatar tomorrow and go to Egypt in preparation for delivery to the Gaza Strip, the statement said.
France also assisted in the mediations, according to Tuesday’s statement.
