


Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and the country’s foreign minister were found dead on Monday morning at the site of their helicopter crash after a several hour-long search effort in the mountainous region of the country’s East Azerbaijan province, state media confirmed.

According to the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency, all individuals onboard the helicopter with Raisi were killed in the crash which took place in the country’s northwest region near its border with Azerbaijan.
The crash occurred on Sunday evening local time, but rescue efforts had been hampered by the mountainous terrain, icy conditions and thick fog.
