A key natural gas pipeline in Iran was damaged in two explosions Wednesday, with government officials blaming sabotage and terrorism for the incident that could further inflame tensions in the Middle East amid the war between Israel and Hamas.

According to Reuters, two explosions were reported along the pipeline at around 1 a.m. local time on Wednesday, resulting in disruption of supplies to industries and offices.

The country’s petroleum minister Javad Owji told state media the explosions were a “terrorist act of sabotage,” without alleging any group’s involvement.

The state-controlled Islamic Republic News Agency reported the explosions took place in two provinces in central and southern Iran.

This is a developing story.
