More than 1.1 million coolers sold in North America—more than 1 million of which were sold in the United States—were recalled due to a severe pinching hazard with the item's tow handle that have led to bone fractures and lacerations.

The brand's 90-Quart Flip & Tow rolling coolers made before January of 2024 are subject to the recall—customers can find the date of manufacture printed on the bottom of the cooler in a circular pattern with an arrow pointing to the month of manufacture and the last two digits of the year inside the circle.

The coolers were sold at Costco, Target, Academy, Dick’s Sporting Goods and other stores, as well as on Amazon, Igloocoolers.com and other websites, from January 2019 to January 2025 for between $80 and $140.

Customers can contact Igloo for a free replacement handle.

  1. That’s how many reports of fingertip injuries Igloo has received for the product, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Igloo's is the fourth cooler-related recall issued through the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in the last five years. The same brand recalled more than 30,000 units of its youth sipper bottles last May due to a choking hazard after the silicone cover on the sipper was found to detach while in use. Anker recalled roughly 5,500 of its EverFrost battery-powered coolers last March due to a battery fire hazard, and Yeti recalled almost 2 million soft coolers and gear cases in March of 2023 because of failures with the magnet-lined closures, causing an ingestion hazard.
