Instagram allows users to select from a vast, in-app music library when they want to add music to Instagram stories or feed posts; here’s how to do that.

Instagram allows users to add music to stories and posts for a shortened amount of time.

Based on agreements with music rights holders, Instagram users have access to the app’s extensive and licensed music library.

Posting videos with extended amounts of a song from outside sources makes it susceptible to either being muted or blocked if it is not free use.

To add music to Instagram stories, go to the Addition icon in the center of the bottom screen and select Story. Once you’ve added your photo to the story, click on the Sticker icon–which is indicated by the square-shaped smiley face–and select the Music icon. On stories, Instagram only permits playing up to 15 seconds of a song.

To add music to Instagram posts, users should hit the Addition icon in the center of the bottom screen to add a post, take a photo or select photos from their libraries, tap the Next button (for iPhone users) or the arrow button (for Android users) in the top right corner to land on the final edit screen before sharing and click Add Music to select a song from Instagram’s library. The app allows usage of up to 30 seconds of a song, and you can choose which 30 seconds you would like added to your post and hit Done (for iPhone users) or the check mark (for Android users) when you’ve decided before sharing to your feed.
