McCarthy told Republicans Tuesday morning he would bring up the “motion to vacate” to the floor for a vote later in the afternoon, multiple outlets reported, citing sources in the meeting.
McCarthy also said he will refuse to strike a deal with Democrats for concessions in exchange for their votes to save his job, telling CNBC “they haven’t asked for anything” and he is “not going to provide anything.”
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) filed a motion Tuesday to hold a vote on McCarthy’s removal, making good on weeks of threats brought to a head when Republicans passed a short-term budget with the help of Democrats on Saturday.
