


House Republican leadership firmly rejected the Senate’s new immigration bill, which aims to decrease crossings along the southern border and pass aid for Israel and Ukraine, saying Monday the deal is “DEAD on arrival in the House”—posing a serious challenge to the bill’s supporters in both parties.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Whip Tom Emmer and Chairwoman Elise Stefanik said the bill is “riddled with loopholes that grant far too much discretionary authority to Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas,” whom Republicans are actively working to impeach as Secretary of Homeland Security.
Leadership also said the bill “fails in every policy area needed to secure our border,” adding it “would actually incentivize more illegal immigration.”
On Sunday, Senate negotiators introduced a bipartisan, $118 billion bill that would be the strictest border security bill in years, if passed, and would deliver long-awaited aid to Israel and Ukraine.
