A panel of judges on the New York Court of Appeals voted 4-3 to overturn Weinstein’s conviction, finding the judge erred by allowing several other women who accused the Hollywood mogul of sexual assault to testify as witnesses—even though they were not directly involved with the case he was charged for.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who was not in office during Weinstein’s prosecution, will now determine if his office will seek another trial for Weinstein, who was sentenced to 23 years in prison in New York.
Weinstein still faces a separate 16-year prison sentence imposed last year for rape and sexual assault in California.
