Hamas, the militant group in control of Gaza, released eight Israeli hostages Thursday afternoon after reaching an eleventh-hour agreement with Israel to extend the ongoing pause in fighting for a seventh day, though whether the cease-fire will extend beyond Friday remains unclear.
