Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said Haniyeh, who was in Tehran to attend the inauguration of Iran’s new president, was targeted at his place of residence—without offering additional details.

Hamas also confirmed Haniyeh’s death on its Telegram account and blamed it on an Israeli raid.

Israeli military officials have refused to comment on the matter.
