Ha Yoon-kyung plays Cho-won in the series 'See You In My 19th Life.'
In the Korean drama See You In My 19th Life, actress Ha Yoon-kyung plays Cho-won, a woman who lost her older sister at a young age. Naturally, Cho-won is surprised when a woman shows up claiming to be the reincarnation of her lost sister. Cho Won’s life has been shaped by her sister’s death, but it’s difficult to accept that her reincarnation is possible. However, love does last more than one lifetime in this wistfully romantic drama.
“I found this drama to be warm and endearing,” said Ha, describing why she took the role. “It has the ability to uplift and bring positive energy to those who feel exhausted by their daily routines.”
The actress, who made her debut in the film Socialphobia, most enjoys acting because it involves studying and understanding people.
“It's a job that requires careful contemplation and observation of various human characters, and ultimately, it helps me become a better person than before,” she said. “It enables me to constantly strive for improvement without settling for mediocrity.”
Ha appeared in both seasons of the Korean TV drama Hospital Playlist and also in the romantic drama She Would Never Know, but it was her recent role, playing lawyer Choi Su-yeon in the 2022 hit drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo that transformed her career—and earned her a nickname. In the series her character’s loyal support leads to Woo Young-woo giving Su-yeon the nickname “Spring Sunshine.” Ha is grateful for the nickname and the recognition the role conferred.
“I'm truly grateful that they now refer to me as ‘Spring Day's Sunshine’ and offer their sincere support,” said Ha. “Additionally, I've noticed a significant increase in the number of casting calls I receive. Previously, I would spend my time attending auditions and waiting for the results. This change has filled me with deep appreciation and gratitude.”
The ongoing success of Extraordinary Attorney Woo meant Ha had to promote two dramas in one year, but she was happy to do it.
“Promoting the dramas did not feel arduous or draining to me, as one might expect,” she said. “Instead, I was eager to show everyone the result of our hard work as soon as possible. I enjoyed the entire process, primarily because I had the privilege of working alongside an exceptional group of individuals.”
'See You In My 19th Life' stars Ha, Ahn Bo-hyun, Lee Chae-min and Shin Hye-sun.
In Ha’s current drama Shin Hye-sun plays Ji-eum, the reincarnation of Cho-won’s sister. Ji-eum remembers her sister and Seo-ha, the boy she once vowed to protect. Ahn Bo-hyun plays the grown-up Seo-Ha,. The cast also includes Lee Chae-min, Ahn Dong-goo. and Lee Bo-young playing Seo-ha’s mother in flashbacks.
When she’s not on set, Ha values quiet time to herself. “As it’s a profession that often deals with many people, I find myself valuing time and space alone,” she said. “I enjoy spending time with my beloved cats, watching favorite movies or series, and relaxing with them. It's during these moments that I recharge my energy.”
She’s not sure what her next role will be but it’s likely to be something very different. “I've inadvertently portrayed a lot of warm and friendly roles, so I have the hope to greet you with something different, something quite the opposite.”
The Studio Dragon drama currently airs on Netflix. See You In My 19th Life is one of the nine Korean dramas produced by Studio Dragon this year that made the Netflix Global TOP 10 Non-English TV List.
