As torrential rain consumes the mountainous region surrounding Beijing, 11 people have died in flooding and 27 more are missing, Chinese state media reported Tuesday.

The area has seen days of heavy downpour that is highly unusual in the area, where the climate is typically dry and moderate, according to the Associated Press.
The Associated Press is reporting that cars are being washed away in flooding and authorities have closed down train stations.
More than 500,000 people have been impacted, state media said, with many of them being evacuated from dangerous areas into shelters like school gymnasiums.
