Colt Gray, who is being charged as an adult, will appear by video from Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center, the Associated Press reported.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the hearing will take place at the Barrow County courthouse at 8.30 a.m. EDT.

The agency said Thursday Gray has been charged with four counts of felony murder and additional charges are expected.

The shooter’s motive remains unknown and the GBI has said its investigation is “still active and ongoing.”

The suspected shooter’s father, Colin Gray, was arrested by authorities on Thursday and charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of cruelty to children. The GBI alleges that Gray’s father “knowingly allowed his son…to possess a gun” but has refused to divulge further details saying it's an “active investigation.” Citing law enforcement sources, CNN reported that Colin Gray told investigators he had purchased the gun used in the shooting as a holiday present for his son in December 2023. The report added that the AR-15-style rifle was purchased at a local gun store. Colin Gray’s arrest is the latest instance in which authorities have charged the parents of a juvenile shooter. In April, a Michigan judge sentenced the parents of 17-year-old Ethan Crumbley—who killed four students in a 2021 school shooting in Michigan—to 10 to 15 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter. The shooter was sentenced to life in prison.

Four people were killed and nine others were injured in Wednesday’s shooting at Apalachee High School in northern Georgia. The 14-year-old suspected shooter was apprehended at the scene after he surrendered to police. The four victims have been identified as students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14, and teachers Richard Aspenwall, 39, and Christina Irimie, 53. Gray’s aunt told the Washington Post that the teenager had been struggling with his mental health and had been “begging for help from everybody around him.” On Wednesday, the FBI said it had questioned Gray last year after they were tipped off about online threats he had made about carrying out a school shooting. The teenager was not arrested at the time since there was “no probable cause,” the federal agency said.
