Prosecutors said in the Tuesday filing that Jones is “a necessary and material witness” to the state’s case, as “Jones will provide evidence to the jury of Kenneth Chesebro's involvement in the conspiracy,” including in relation to his participation at the January 6 riots.
In August it was reported that Chesebro and Jones had been seen together outside the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Jones will be protected from arrest in Georgia or any other state if he abides by the request to attend and testify in the trial, the filing says; it is expected his testimony won’t exceed one day and prosecutors do not know when he will be called to testify.
Prosecutors also requested testimony from Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel. She is considered a necessary witness as she has “unique knowledge concerning communications between herself and Donald Trump as well as communications between herself and John Eastman” as it relates to the false elector conspiracy, per the filing. McDaniel would also be protected from arrest in Georgia and other states should she testify.
