Santos, who faces a minimum of two years in prison, became the sixth person expelled from the House in December 2023 when his colleagues voted to eject him following a House Ethics Committee report into an extensive lying scandal covering everything from his college degrees to his alleged Jewish heritage.

The House Ethics probe also produced evidence that Santos used his campaign funds to pay for a lavish lifestyle.

In his plea deal, he agreed to pay restitution of at least $373,749 and admitted to making false statements to the Federal Elections Commission, committing wire fraud and fraudulently using IDs and credit cards for his personal benefit.

Prosecutors are seeking an 87-month sentence, while Santos’ lawyers have asked U.S. District Judge Joanna Seybert for a two-year prison term.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
