NBA Free Agency is nearing Week 3, and no resolution between the Chicago Bulls and restricted free agent Ayo Dosunmu have yet to be found.

Dosunmu, who has played two years with the franchise, has had a productive early career, averaging 26.8 minutes over 157 games, and producing 8.7 points per contest, while offering quality point-of-attack defense.

The 23-year-old was selected 38th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft, after spending three seasons with Illinois.

Dosunmu, a local player who grew up in Chicago, is reportedly increasingly unlikely to return to the Bulls according to 670 The Score.

One team with interest in Dosunmu, dating back to the early days of July, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo! Sports, is the Toronto Raptors.

Such a theoretical fit makes a lot of sense for both sides. The Raptors lost their starting point guard, Fred VanVleet, to the Houston Rockets after he signed a three-year deal worth $128.5 million.

Toronto then signed Dennis Schröder to a two-year $25 million deal as VanVleet's replacement, but are still short on quality guards.

Dosunmu would immediately step into minutes if he were to be signed by the Raptors, both as a potential starter over Schröder or by backing up both guard spots. At 6'5 and with a 6'9 wingspan, Dosunmu is a large guard who can defend multiple positions, and even wings.

Toronto will be limited to offering Dosunmu the minimum, however. They spent their entire Non-Tax MLE on Schröder, and their bi-annual exception (BAE) on Jalen McDaniels. Dosunmu's current qualifying offer with Chicago is worth $5.22 million, which he in theory can pick up whenever, but if he opts for the payday in Chicago, there's a good chance he won't play a ton given that the Bulls signed Jevon Carter to a three-year contract worth $20 million this summer.

Of course, the Bulls and Raptors could initiate sign-and-trade talks so Dosunmu could get paid, while going elsewhere to find minutes. But that might take some time given the uncertainty of Pascal Siakam's future in Toronto. If the Raptors are to pivot off their best player, that takes priority over trading for Dosunmu.

If the Siakam situation drags out into the late summer, it might behoove Dosunmu to just accept the qualifying offer, cash in on the $5.22 million, and hope he can carve out just enough minutes to make teams have him on their radar in the summer of 2024, when he'll be an unrestricted free agent.

However, the clock is ticking. The Bulls are still rounding out their roster, and could pull Dosunmu's qualifying offer if they need to free up some financial flexibility.

This is where Dosunmu will need to read the market. Could there be another team out there with enough available funds to match the $5.22 million, or potentially exceed it? The deeper into July we get, the less likely such a scenario would be.

The sooner Dosunmu and his team make a decision on his future, the better.
