$7 million. That's how much it cost for a 30-second ad spot during the Super Bowl, believed to be a new pricing record, Deadline reported.

The popularity of "big game ads" have been on the rise since the first Super Bowl in the 1960s. In 1968, when 70 million Americans watched Super Bowl II, commercial time sold for $150,000 a minute, according to Time. By 1977, advertisements cost $250,000 a minute, up to $1 million by 1985 and $9 million per minute by 2015. The rise in prices accompanied a rise in viewership. By the 1990s, 85 to 90 million people were watching the Super Bowl each year, up to 100 million by 2009. In 2023, 115.1 million viewers tuned in for the game.

David advised viewers not to miss out on "the next big thing" in a Super Bowl ad for cryptocurrency exchange FTX, which collapsed later that year. Its founder, Sam Bankman-Fried, was later convicted of fraud and related crimes. In an interview with the Associated Press last week, David said he asked friends of his if he should do the ad and, "like an idiot, I did it." David is one of a handful of celebrities facing a lawsuit for promoting FTX, including Tom Brady, Gisele Bündchen and Stephen Curry.
