Fox News Channel senior political analyst Brit Hume surprised some of his Fox News colleagues by calling President Biden’s Oval Office address on Israel and Gaza “one of the best, if not the best” of his presidency. “He was firm, he was unequivocal, he was strong as he has been particularly in recent days before he went to Israel and while he was over there.”

“I was struck by the fact he spent as much time as he did on Ukraine, and I think it was a good thing he did,” Hume said, “because the aid for Ukraine package that he is taking about and further aid to Ukraine beyond that is in jeopardy.”

Hume’s praise came during post-speech analysis that included Fox News hosts like Sean Hannity expressing disappointment with the speech, which he called “disjointed,” and “cliched.” Hannity said it lacked detail about the “barbaric brutality that took place in Israel in the terrorist attacks.”

Hume has often been harshly critical of the president, including saying in July that Biden is “obviously senile.” Hume dismissed President Biden’s first State of the Union address in 2022, saying “it was uninspiring. The connective tissue within the speech I thought was weak. And so it didn’t really, I don’t think moved the needle very much.”

But he defended Biden’s speech Thursday night—in particular his emphasis on Ukraine—by asking “what would the rest of the world and its evildoers think if we pulled out of there?”
