Fermin Lopez is the name on everyone's lips in the football world after he scored an outrageous screamer and provided an assist in FC Barcelona's 3-0 humiliation of Real Madrid in El Clasico.

The 20-year-old had been talked about in previous days as one of the revelations of preseason training.

Returning from Linares on loan, he was sent from the reserve Barca Atletic team to Xavi Hernandez's senior squad along the likes of Mika Faye, Marc Casado, Estanis Pedrola, Angel Alarcon and Unai.

Of that bunch, just Casado, Faye and Lopez had seats reserved on the plane heading to the United States for Barca's ongoing friendly tour.

And of the youngsters in the 32-man squad currently Stateside and looking to make an impression on the manager with a view to helping Barca in their defense of the La Liga title in 2023/2024, only Lamine Yamal and Lopez received minutes against Arsenal.

SPORT noted how Lopez was the player "who had most impressed the coach" and his teammates in the first training sessions of preseason. In the second half of the 5-3 loss against the Gunners, he made 17 interventions, made 10 successful passes (one of which was a key pass) and won two duels.

While Yamal didn't manage to get on the pitch against Real Madrid in 3-0 win at Cowboys Stadium, Lopez was again introduced and put in an even better second half cameo.

As Ansu Fati put pressure on Toni Kroos and captain Sergi Roberto palmed off the loose ball, Lopez seized the moment to seal El Clasico by letting off a screamer into the top corner past Thibaut Courtois that doubled Barca's lead after Ousmane Dembele's opener on a quarter of an hour.

Then, just six minutes later with 91 down on the clock, he piled on the misery for Los Blancos with a delightful flighted ball for Ferran Torres who made it three.

Movistar, which showed the game live in Spain, said that Lopez's goal was his 'Cover Letter'.

Yet it appears as though he need not apply for his place in Xavi's plans moving forward after such a dazzling display against the Catalans' eternal enemy.
