Paris Saint-German have told former FC Barcelona star Neymar, who has been linked with a return to his former club, that he doesn't feature in their plans this season according to RMC Sport.

Both the Brazilian and Marc Verratti were absent from PSG's last training session and weren't invited to a media day this week.

Instead, they were summoned to meet new head coach Luis Enrique, who managed Neymar at Barca from 2014 to 2016, and sporting director Luis Campos.

In the meeting, the duo allegedly told Neymar and Verratti that the club isn't counting on them for the upcoming season which kicks off at the weekend in France.

The development comes after Neymar told PSG at the weekend how he wishes to leave the Qatari-owned outfit he joined when they activated his €222 million ($244 million) FC Barcelona release clause in 2017 according to L'Equipe.

Neymar is eager for a return to Catalonia, but the Blaugrana's Financial Fair Play limit issues and general economic woes mean that either buying the Santos academy product or taking him on loan and paying his wages is complicated.

L'Equipe reported that Neymar's asking price is €150 million ($164.7 million), and Forbes put his on-field earnings at $50 million ($55 million) in the most recent edition of The World's Highest-Paid Athletes.

One possible solution reported on by SPORT is a Saudi Pro League team first buying Neymar for such a fee and then loaning him to the Catalans for a year.

Even if this were possible, however, president Joan Laporta needs to convince Xavi Hernandez - fearful of the disruptive influence his former teammate could have on the locker room - that obtaining Neymar is worthwhile.

As was the plan with Lionel Messi before he decided to join Inter Miami, Neymar's mere presence can help offset some losses from playing at the Montjuic Stadium next season while Camp Nou is being renovated, and these have been calculated at €90 million ($99 million).

One thing is for certain, if RMC Sport's news is accurate, Neymar needs to find a club ASAP as there is no space for him in a new sporting project at the Parc des Princes.
