FC Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has laid into La Liga and its officiating during a live stream interview with Polish outlet Meczyki on Saturday.

Lewandowski's Barca boss Xavi Hernandez has recently served a two-match ban for lashing out at the officials during a 0-0 draw with Getafe.

After the Blaugrana's season opener, midfielder Frenkie de Jong also had something to say about timewasting in the fixture that ran until 116 minutes.

Having is own say on the matter, Lewandowski boldly stated: "La Liga is not attractive and attacking enough. Referees are killing the league."

"I didn't expect Spanish league teams to be this reluctant to play football," added the ex-Bayern Munich striker, who has netted just once in three Spanish top flight outings so far.

Lewandowski opened his 2023/2024 account with a tap-in that proved to be the winner against Villarreal in a 4-3 away thriller this weekend.

It came after 16-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal hit the post, with Lewandowski tapping home the rebound.

Asked about the La Masia prodigy, Lewandowski was full of praise but demanded that football "let him be a youngster first".

"How many players started that young and were still strong in their thirties?" he further posed.

At 35, Lewandowski is still performing in the elite but not as strongly as before the Qatar 2022 when he netted 18 goals in 19 games after completing a €50 million ($54 million) move from Bayern Munich in that year's summer transfer window.

This has led to reports that Barca will look to sell him next year for €40 million ($43.2 million), with an Saudi Arabian outfit already tabling a bid for him for that amount earlier this week according to SPORT.

After revealing that he will decide whether to retire from the Poland national team before the Euros in Germany at the end of the club season, Lewandowski noted that "sometimes in football, the last 15 minutes are the hardest for a player".

"That's when the fatigue comes into play, and you have to put in the most effort to stay at the same level," he explained.

On Sunday, Lewandowski should be expected to start against Osasuna, in what is Barca's last fixture before the international break.
