Neymar will return to FC Barcelona from Paris Saint-Germain this summer according to Qatari Sheikh Mabkhout Al-Marri, who is believed to have been the first source to correctly report that Lionel Messi had decided to join Inter Miami in June.

Despite constant reports that the Brazilian does not feature in Barca head coach Xavi Hernandez's plans, there are some nuances highlighted by Mundo Deportivo which suggest the move could come to fruition.

Neymar has been linked to former club Barca on numerous occasions since the end of last season.

On the evening that Messi revealed to the Catalan media he would be joining his current MLS employers Inter Miami, SPORT reported that the Brazilian had been offered to the Blagurana and would be willing to lower his salary to make the deal happen.

Early this week, the same newspaper explained that Paris Saint-Germain had offered Barca their former player on loan as part of negotiations centering around a switch of allegiances for Ousmane Dembele

Dembele seems set to head to the Parc des Princes regardless as part of a €50 million ($55 million) transfer which will be completed in the coming weeks.

According to Mabkhout Al-Marri, though, who is close to both Qatari-owned PSG and Barca president Laporta, Neymar is set to represent his first European club after leaving boyhood outfits Santos in 2013.

Such claims have been thrown out several times, with Xavi even telling Gerard Romero that his former teammate Neymar doesn't form part of his sporting project for 2023/2024.

As pointed out by Mundo Deportivo, however, a couple of developments which unraveled on Saturday suggested that there could be something behind the news.

First of all, Neymar has deleted mentioning that he is a PSG player from his Instagram profile.

Furthermore, he has traveled to Ibiza with his father and in a photo uploaded to social media has been shown meeting Pini Zahavi.

The Israel player representative has acted as an intermediary before in Neymar's transfers and is also a close friend of Joan Laporta's.

Whether there is anything behind all this, though, and the events aren't just mere coincidence, remains to be seen.

With Dembele leaving Barca, there is space on the wings as Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres also struggle to nail down the left flank.

Amid Barca's financial difficulties, affording Neymar's salary will be more difficult than fitting him into the starting line up in Catalonia.
