FC Barcelona are set to finalize and announce a cash injection this week that will allow them to register their new players and the fresh terms of existing stars, as reported by SPORT and Mundo Deportivo.

Navigating Financial Fair Play limits has been a thorny issue for the Catalans in the past couple of years.

In 2021, the failure to do so meant that their greatest ever player Lionel Messi couldn't be offered a new contract and walked to Paris Saint-Germain on a free.

This summer, the same hurdle pushed the Argentine to sign for Inter Miami and not Barca.

Messi decided not to hang around for president Joan Laporta and his board to get their financial house in order, so that he could wear Blagurana again after his two-year arrangement at the Parc des Princes expired.

In between that, 2022 saw Laporta pull a series of 'economic levers' that involved selling bits of the club's future television rights revenue to Sixth Street, plus two 24.5% shares of Barca Studios to Socios and Orpheus Media.

Socios and Orpheus Media agreed to pay €100 million ($110.6 million) each for their stakes.

It is understood that at least €10 million ($11 million) was handed over up front, but the two outfits both delaying €30 million ($33.1 million) payments due last month - as reported by COPE - hasn't exactly helped Barca balance the books.

Barca need to register the new contracts of Gavi, Ronald Araujo, Inaki Pena, Marcos Alonso and Sergi Roberto, and also new signings Oriol Romeu, Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez.

The very few outgoing transfers and contract terminations that have been sealed already still leave the club wanting financially, and a big player sale has been ruled out by vice president Rafa Yuste in an interview conducted with SPORT this week.

Yuste, who promised "good news" and an announcement on registrations soon, could speak so boldly because it appears he and Laporta have a trick up their sleeve.

According to the same Catalan daily newspaper, Barca hope to close an economic agreement this week that has been approved by La Liga and will allow them to register new players in the Spanish top flight championship they won last term.

Over at Mundo Deportivo, they explain that Barca will announce the cash injection, which is a part of the Viability Plan they had to show La Liga in order to prove how they will make new signings, as soon as Thursday.

The operation should allow Barca to end the saga surrounding the registrations, and it has been made clear to MD by sources that it does not involve player sales and is related to one of the club's assets instead.

Maybe Barca are close to selling some or all of the remaining 51% of Barca Studios.

But whatever the deal entails, it will come as a comfort to fans and the players themselves.

Ex-Manchester City captain Gundogan for instance has constantly stated how happy he is to be in Catalonia. Yet with a clause in his contract reportedly allowing him to flee for free if he isn't registered by August 12, it isn't plain sailing just yet.

As for Gavi and Araujo, they have often been linked with moves away to European giants happy to snap them up if and when they become contract-less free agents.

That nightmare potential scenario looks sure to be put to bed in the coming weeks, though, and head coach Xavi Hernandez will be able to sleep easier as his team prepares to do battle on domestic and European fronts in 2023/2024.
