FC Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal is on course to smash the Spanish national team's youngest ever appearance maker record with his first senior call-up expected next week according to MARCA.

The 16-year-old boasts two records in 2023 already.

In April, he came off the bench against Real Betis to become Barca's youngest ever La Liga appearance maker aged just 15 years and 290 days, coming close to both scoring and providing a pair of assists in the 4-0 win.

Then at the weekend, he etched his name into the Catalans' history books as their youngest ever starter in the Spanish top flight as the first full three points of 2023/2024 were picked up via a 2-0 victory over Cadiz.

Yamal's career is progressing at breakneck speed.

With Raphinha out thanks to a red card suspension picked up against Getafe in Barca's physical 0-0 season opener, he won a race for the vacant right wing berth freed up by the Brazilian over the likes of Ferran Torres.

Hooked in favor of Ferran on 85 minutes at the Montjuic Stadium this weekend, Yamal received the first standing ovation at Barca's temporary new home while Camp Nou is being renovated.

Ferran's goal to double the lead against Cadiz, after Pedri opened the scoring on 82 minutes, has led to debate as to whether the ex-Valencia man should replace the younger in Xavi's lineup at Villarreal next time out as Raphinha serves the rest of his ban.

According to MARCA, however, this battle for minutes with the outrageously skillful and talented Yamal - who ripped Tottenham apart with what was described as the the best Joan Gamper Trophy display since Lionel Messi at Juventus' expense in 2005 - is one that could carry over to the national team too.

This is because the Spanish Football Federation has reportedly met with Yamal and his family in Barcelona on Wednesday to communicated that he will be on Luis de la Fuente's call-up list on September 1 for upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Georgia and Cyprus next month.

Yamal, whose father hails from Morocco while his mother comes from Equatorial Guinea, has already represented Spain at U-15 and U-17 level.

Where he to feature for De La Fuente's senior outfit for even a couple of minutes in the aforementioned fixtures, he would obliterate the youngest appearance maker record Barca teammate Xavi set when starring for La Roja against Italy aged 17 years and 62 days.

Evolving at his current rate, you would also expect Yamal to make the cut for Euro 2024 next summer where he would turn 17 a day before the tournament held in Germany.
