FC Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez was critical of Ousmane Dembele's pending move to Paris Saint-Germain after a 1-0 friendly win over AC Milan in Las Vegas on Tuesday.

Several reports have strongly linked Dembele with a switch to the Ligue 1 champions since Sunday, but Dembele still traveled from Dallas - where he scored the opening goal in a 3-0 Clasico victory against Real Madrid - to Vegas with the 32-man squad currently in the the U.S. on a preseason tour that concluded at Allegiant Stadium.

Mundo Deportivo reported that Barca have already agreed to sell Dembele for a paltry €50 million ($55 million) thanks to a private agreement the player and his agent Moussa Sissoko struck during talks to renew his contract until June 30, 2024 last year.

Perhaps as punishment but also a means of preventing the injury-prone winner from picking up a knock that might scupper the move, a hooded Dembele didn't even make the bench against AC Milan but featured on camera when Ansu Fati celebrated his second half edge of the box screamer that decided the tie with the Russia 2018 World Cup winner.

Speaking to TV3 at full time, a Xavi described as 'very disappointed' by SPORT, who has warned Dembele of Neymar's trajectory at PSG which has not been successful and has led to the Brazilian trying and failing to return to Camp Nou, Xavi revealed that Dembele requested to leave.

Xavi added how Dembele informed the club "that that he has a proposal from PSG, that he wants to go there, [and] today he has not played for that reason."

"It is a pity. It tastes bad to me. [I'm] a little disappointed yes, we have taken great care of him here," Xavi, who took Dembele under his wing when fans were booing him for not renewing and demanded that he be sent to the stands, admitted.

In another confession, however, Xavi said: "The proposal that they make…we cannot compete."

At a time when Barca are struggling to register new players and the contracts of existing stars, Xavi is right in that Barca can't offer Dembele anything close to the €20 million ($22 million) a season he will receive on a five-year deal at the Parc des Princes.

Furthermore, it is better that Barca receive €25 million ($27.5 million) for Dembele, with the other €25 million heading to Dembele and Sissoko's pockets, than nothing at all in just under a year from now where he to flee Catalonia on a free transfer.
