FBI Director Christopher Wray intends to resign, multiple outlets reported Wednesday, a little more than a week after President-elect Donald Trump nominated Kash Patel to replace him.

Wray told FBI employees Wednesday he will step down in January, according to reports.

Trump nominated Wray to a 10-year term during his first White House tenure, but announced earlier this month he had nominated Patel to replace him, after Trump repeatedly criticized Wray, in part for his agency’s role in the various federal investigations into Trump.
