Weisselberg will plead guilty to perjury charges stemming from his testimony in the civil fraud case, CNN and ABC News reported Monday citing anonymous sources, though it’s still unclear the exact charges he’ll face.
The ex-CFO came under criticism during the fraud trial—in which Trump, Weisselberg and other associates were accused of fraudulently misstating the value of assets on financial statements for personal gain—as he testified he knew that Trump’s Manhattan penthouse was 10,996 square feet, rather than 30,000 square feet as the company claimed on financial statements.
Weisselberg testified under oath that he “never focused” on the penthouse and “never even thought about the apartment” to explain why the square footage was incorrect on financial statements—and Forbes published a piece accusing Weisselberg of lying under oath, based on notes and emails showing the then-CFO routinely focused on the size of Trump’s triplex.
Weisselberg was pulled off the stand at the fraud trial after the Forbes piece was published, and reports emerged in February that the ex-CFO was in negotiations with the Manhattan district attorney’s office to plead guilty to perjury.
CNN reports Weisselberg will plead guilty “later in the day” on Monday, after reporting to the Manhattan DA’s office early Monday morning.
